Trastevere Tour

Its Latin name, “Trans Tiberim,” means “across the Tiber.”

From the Janiculum Hill we will walk through this very popular and picturesque district, admiring first of all the gorgeous scenery of Rome, then the perfectly proportioned Tempietto of  Bramante, a little, circular Renaissance Chapel.
The Villa Farnesina, an exquisite Renaissance villa, built in the area where in the first century B.C. Julius Caesar’s palace was located and where he lodged Cleopatra. From here Cleopatra and her illegitimate son by Caesar, Caesarion, escaped by boat after Caesar’s murder. Raphael decorated the Villa for the great banker Agostino Chigi, who would entertain his guests here in sumptuous style. A visit to the early Christian church of St. Mary in Trastevere will complete our tour in this charming famous district.
